Hi. I'm Alisha Sommer, Freelance Writer & Photographer based out of Chicago. I have a gift for holding sacred space, for deep listening, and for seeing the ordinary in extraordinary ways. I use these gifts to uncover the true essence of you and your business and translate it into images and words. If you're an artist, a chef, a designer, a maker, a visionary on a mission—I want to help you tell a more beautiful story.
Currently, you'll also find me collaborating with Angela Burke for Black Food & Beverage, hosting creative gatherings in Sonoma, CA like the Fever Dreams Collective Retreat with Jennette Nielsen, and facilitating the online writing workshop liberated lines with Robin Sandomirsky.
In the past I founded and edited a print literary journal (Blackberry: a magazine), published personal essays, creative nonfiction, and poetry for a variety of online and print publications, and taught at Squam Art Workshops.
I love the feeling of heat in my hands, the weight of linen across my body, the warmth of knotty pine beneath my feet. If I could be anything and do anything, it would be exactly what I'm doing now: Being a wife and a mother of 3 living out her creative journey–but maybe with a view of a vineyard from the kitchen window, camera and pen always in hand. I'm interested in exploring creativity, food and wine, literature and writing, and all things beautiful.
If I had to summarize myself in a list of textures, it would go something like this: hand-scraped wood, shiny brass, natural linen, cotton, velvet, leather and lace.
I'm taking the Certified Sommelier Exam in 2018 and daydreaming about moving our family to California wine country.
Really, I'm just a storyteller.
I want to tell the truest of true stories in the most beautiful way possible. You can read SOMMERSALT, my lifestyle blog, here.
